Born and raised on the vibrant island of Réunion, Mei Li is an extraordinary singer whose unique sound draws from a wide array of musical influences. Her musical journey began as a young child, studying both classical and jazz piano with her teachers, while also self-teaching herself other instruments. Over the years, Mei Li has performed with cover bands in Réunion, France, and Tasmania, enriching her style with each experience. She also studied Réunionese traditional harmony and percussion, a pursuit that coincided with the release of her debut album, Ballad’ (2021), a collection of original music that captures her eclectic influences and personal sound.
After a few years spent on stage rather than in the studio, Mei Li seems ready to let us hear a little more and seems determined to make us groove these days.
In October 2025, she features on Parisian producer Kobé Lulu’s remix of “Kaniki”, a classic by Françoise Guimbert (emblematic figure of Reunion island traditional music Maloya).
And just now, Mei Li dropped a new eclectic, bilingual, chill and groovy single called “Please”. This song shows us a different side of the artist, with its production style and influences, yet very much Mei Li – like in its vocal harmonies.
Mei Li plays, sings, records, and produces every track. No autotune, ever. No label. Just pure, authentic MeiLi-ness.

Mei Li does it her own way. Every word, every sound comes straight from her heart and imagination—an artist who is a free spirit, creative and untamed, fully independent in her vision and expression.
Mei Li writes from the heart, in both English and Creole (Réunion), sharing her adventures from the perspective of a Creole woman exploring the world and questioning some of its rules.
Her sound is the most raw and captivating form of her creativity. When inspiration strikes, she hears not just a melody and chords, but sometimes an entire orchestra playing in her mind, infused with limitless and diverse cultural influences. She then records the instrumental tracks, occasionally guiding guest musicians to contribute to her project, and produces her own vocals.
